OnLine Banking Security Tips
Our OnLine Banking service includes effective security techniques that we encourage you to implement:
- Never reveal your password to anyone or leave your password anywhere that someone else can obtain and use it.
- Change your password on a regular basis.
- Use the Exit Button to end each OnLine Banking session. Do not use the Back Button to exit the site.
- Change your session timeout in User Options to a time that meets your needs.
- Balance your account on a regular basis. OnLine Banking makes it easy!
Definition of Identity Theft
Identity theft occurs when a person acquires key parts of someone else's identifying information, such as name, address, date of birth, Social Security Number, and mother's maiden name in order to commit fraud. Using this information, a thief may take control over financial accounts, open new accounts, purchase goods, apply for loans, credit cards, and benefits, and establish services with utilities.
Protect Yourself From Identity Theft
- Do not give out personal or financial information unless you initiated the call and know or trust the person with whom you are speaking
- If you receive a telephone inquiry for information, contact your Customer Center or someone in the newdominionDIRECT Solutions Center to verify that the call is legitimate.
- Visit https://www.donotcall.gov/ and register for the Federal Do Not Call Registry to keep telemarketers from calling you.
- Remove incoming mail from your mailbox as soon after delivery as possible.
- Have your mail held at the Post Office if you are going to be away from home for several days.
- Promptly notify NewDominion or newdominionDIRECT.comĀ® if you have a change of address.
- Shred receipts, financial statements prior to disposal.
- Promptly report lost or stolen ATM, debit, and credit cards to 800-500-1044.
- Reconcile your NewDominion or newdominionDIRECT.comĀ® statements as soon as you receive them and report any discrepancies promptly to 800-592-6248.
- Never leave your checkbook, wallet, or other personal information unprotected.
- Review your credit report from the three major credit reporting agencies at least annually to confirm that there is no unauthorized information reported.
